shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)
[livejournal.com profile] f00dave went through a psychotic episode on Monday. He has been diagnosed as having paraphrenia, probably triggered by immense stress and pressure. He calls it a spiritual crisis, but in either case, the worst appears to be behind us. He has absolutely no violent tendencies, either toward himself or others.

He has been eating and sleeping regularly, and as of today, seems to be about 99% back to normal. He goes back in for a follow-up visit to the psychiatrist next week.

We have agreed that it is best for him to withdraw from university. He may eventually get back on track with his PhD, but in the meantime, he needs time away from that stressor.

I'll be staying in Fredericton with him for as long as it takes, but we have plans to move to Ontario once everything has stabilized. We hope that won't take too long, but there is no set date for the move.

I'm going to try to get back on at the call centre here. I know it was hell on me, but we are in desperate need of cash. I figure I can handle the job on a part-time basis, and maybe find another part-time job that's not so onerous, as well.

f00 is going to spend the rest of the week collecting his thoughts, doing a bit of research, and regaining some sort of equilibrium.

He has asked that if he engages in "crazy talk," that you let him know. He needs that grounding in reality, and to have it pointed out to him will help him refocus.

And yes, I am doing better, myself. I got a good night's sleep, and have been able to eat more food. At this rate, I'll be back to normal by the end of the week.

We all thank you very much for all the help and good thoughts you've put out. It really helps enormously to know how much everyone cares.

Add that to other things in everyday life.

Most universities are very willing to accomodate and assist students with health issues like this -- the Dean of Students office would be a good starting point.

My thoughts are with you both.

Whoa.. so *that's* what happens when you try for your PhD.. Must start watching my odd behaviour..

Good luck to you both! F00's pretty lucky to have you around, to (oddly enough) ground him in reality..

Hey, you have to admit there's some irony there. ;)

Sorry to hear the stress was killing you. Something similar happened to me this semester: In essence my grades suck ass because I overworked myself. I know, night quite as bad, but I've had severe bouts of anger and delerium from lack of sleep, so I have an inkling.

Nil carborundrum bother. =)

Good luck and best wishes for both of you. If you need some time way away, the Rural Wastelands are tolerable this time of year...

Just sending hugs and positive thoughts to you both. Was your hubby given Risperdal or another kind of anti-psychotic drug? I had Risperdal once and it was not that bad. Actually I just came back from a psych. hospital one week ago.

Good to hear from you both and to hear that [livejournal.com profile] f00dave is better. Some people can tolerate less stress than others, and extreme stress can (unfortunately) cause psychotic episodes in some of us.

{{{hugs}}}

Urk. I was wondering what was going on.

I figured it was something like that.

Please, both of you take care of each other, and yourselves.

That's excellent that he seems to be improving. Take it one day at a time. Take care of yourselves.
I hope you two get back into your groove better than ever in short order. You're both cool people.

I'm glad that you're there for him during the crisis, and even gladder that he's getting the help he needs.

Hopefully, by the time you fine folks get back this way, I won't be so busy as to miss meeting you.

Shan, do you want me to see if I can get your workshop money back from Venus Envy? The manager is a friend of mine, and I might be able to swing that. That would amount to a bit of money that could help out. Drop me a line at uberwench at gmail dot com.

Thanks. f00 just wanted to wait until this week before he decides anything. I'll get back to you by tomorrow.

I am glad you are doing better! It is nice to have more context about what was going on, even though I'm just a random internet stranger.
