shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)

Here are the kung fu forms I (theoretically) know:

Hung Kuen
- Fook Fu (Taming the Tiger)
- Gung Ji ("Work")
- Fu Hou (Tiger Monkey)

Tong Long (Praying Mantis)
- 8 Elbows
- Sup Bat Sou (Eighteen Ancestors)

Wing Chun
- Sil Nim Tao (Little Ideas)

Bing Hey (Weapons)
- Staff
- Broadsword

I've also done Tiger Snake, Dragon, and a Tibetan form whose name I've forgotten, but they're no longer on the kwoon's curriculum and are pretty much gone from my memory.

And then there's all the Goju-Ryu karate-do kata which have pretty much completely fled my brain:

- Gekisai Dai Ichi (To destroy introduction number 1)
- Gekisai Dai Ni (To destroy introduction number 2)
- Saifa (To destroy by pounding/pulverising)
- Seiyunchin (Grasping, pulling, unbalancing)
- Shisochin (To destroy in 4 directions)
- Sanseru (36 hands or movements)
- Sepai (18 hands or movements)
- Kururunfa (Holding on long and striking suddenly)
- Sesan (13 hands or movements)
- Sanchin (3 battles)
- Tensho (Rotating palms)

And then there's the Wu-style t'ai chi chu'an:

- 108 Moves

And of course I know basic drills and techniques, and have a modicum of sparring skills, on top of all this.

There's a Krav Maga school close to my home in Kitchener. Do you know anything about it? I'm thinking of giving it a shot.

Krav Maga is pretty damned effective. Like San Soo (Kung Fu Choi Li Ho Fut), which I study, it's not pretty to watch...but if you ever end up having one of those mythical encounters in a dark alley, it's a good, brutal, effective, and practical martial art to know.

I've done a bit of Choi Li Fut, and quite like it. It's part of my kwoon's curriculum, but I haven't done any of the forms yet.

I've written to the Krav Maga people. I'd like to try out a couple of classes and see what it's like.

Oh cool, I don't know either of those mantis forms.

They're the only ones I know, but my 8 Elbows is pretty weak. Maybe I can get it down in the next couple of weeks.

That's still really impressive. If it's the one I am thinking of (and maybe it's not because I could have sworn it was 18, not 8, but what do I know ;)) only a few very advanced students know it.

The 8 Elbows that I do is apparently part of a larger form. The Sigung still hasn't shown us the rest. He wants us to understand this first.

Oh, okay. Do you happen to know the form? Right now I am working on broadsword. I stink at flowering, I keep spanking myself (heh heh). But I'm getting better.

I don't know it well at all, I'm afraid.

I've always wondered about that school, and schools in North America in general. If you do end up going, please tell. I'm curious how they compare to what they taught us in Israel.

Will do! I plan on trying out a couple of classes. I can't see being able to afford going regularly, though. It's $95/month, and I'm poor.
