shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)
Just as I was about to leave for my interview, the phone rang. It was the gym I'd applied at some time ago, and they wanted to give me a telephone interview. I begged off, explaining I had an appointment I was leaving for, and could they please call tomorrow?

No problem, they said.

And I left the door going "Fuckfuckfuck!" Because I want the job at the gym. I don't want to work for a promotional company, but I can't afford to lose the possibility of getting hired there, either.

But you know what? That was the quickest 8-hour interview I've ever done.

I got to the promotion company, was assigned someone to shadow, and we started walking toward a bus station so we could do door-to-door sales for a cable company. That's when I discovered the pay was 100% commission, and that's when I told them, "I'm really not interested in a commission sales position, and I don't want to waste your time, so have a nice day!"

Or something to that effect.

On the way back home, I stopped by the gym on the off chance that I could speak with the woman who had called me. Yes, she could, and I did a bitchin' interview. The hours aren't my favourite (5:30 am -12:30 pm), but I can adapt to them pretty easily. Lately, I've been waking up around 5:30, anyhow.

They're supposed to call me by Friday.

The job would be perfect: it's five minutes away on foot, and I'd get a free gym membership, discounts on my fitness certifications, and I'd be in the ideal position to get promoted to personal trainer/fitness leader. With the money I'd save on gym memberships, I'd be able to take kung fu and probably Krav Maga, too. Oh yes, and I'd have weekends off.

Cross your fingers!

Good luck!

*snarls at the 17 resumes sent to a local institution*

Yeah, they have a number of positions open. It's a hospital. I really hate how I have to apply to them separately, though.

That is always a pain in the ass.

Any Chance the Promotional Company was called Benz Morgan Advertising?

But all the pictures on their website show happy
people sitting indoors! That sounds a lot like
my very short stint with Clean Water Action, al-
though it was hotter and only *most* of the pay
was commission-based, with retro-active quotas
for the month.

Good luck getting the gymjob!

I believe the pictures on their website have nothing to do with the actual employees or place of employment.

There needs to be legislation forcing websites to
put disclaimers at the bottom of their pages:

"Any similarity to any work environment or actual
company, public, private, or bankrupt is entirely
co-incidental."

yay for you drop-kicking the 100% commission people (with your first day training completely commission free! whatta bargain!).

crossed fingers on the gym job.

Thanks!

And when I got there, I had to sign a waver saying I'd do the whole day voluntarily. Eugh.

Good luck! Sounds like a dream job.

Thanks!

A dream job would be me getting paid to study dance/martial arts. But I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

Oh man, good luck! The gym job sounds right up your alley!

*fingers firmly crossed* Another friend of mine (not on LJ; a RL friend) applied at a gym, too, so I am now crossing fingers for you both. She needs the job to fund her studies at a performance school for clowns in my city - how cool is that? (This doesn't imply that what you do is not cool or less cool!)

Date: 2006-06-26 08:56 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com
That sounds awesome!

I think I'd make a pretty good clown, but clowns are creepy. Hey, I'm creepy, too!

Corina, my friend, can be really creepy, too. She is a Borderliner (like me) and a recovering alcoholic, and she has a comical talent, is good with children and... she is just great.

Here's hoping, indeed!

Good luck.

It sounds like this could prove to be something enjoyable and profitable for you, a wonderful combination. I'm sure the gym will be very glad to have you in that position. From what I've read of what you've written, it sounds like you would be a thorough and consciencious trainer and a good teacher. I hope they make you a good offer.

or is it vitamins and organic bananas, then?

Date: 2006-06-27 02:55 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com
I have yet to hear back from any interview I've had.

I'm hoping for the gym job, but the health food store job wouldn't be bad. I just really want the gym job.

well i hope you get the gym job! i work in a health food store, or rather a "natural grocery store" as they like to call it.... its not bad at all.

Date: 2006-06-27 03:13 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com
The health food store is about 20-30 minutes away on bike. The gym is 5 minutes away on foot--just another plus on the gym....

**fingers crossed**

If you get the job will you memorize all your students names and thank them for attending your classes?:)

No way!

Not that I could do that, anyhow. I'm terrible with names.
