shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)
Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] zero_design gave me my very first Playstation game as a welcome-home gift: The Urbz - Sims in the City. The only problem is, I don't know how to play it. It's not the same as The Sims. Do you know how to play? What am I supposed to do? So far, all I've been able to figure out is how to talk to people in the subway station, and then my character gets tired and falls alsleep on the floor. How do I get money? How do I get furniture? I'm confused, and the instruction manual doesn't really go into any details.

I've found a few resources for the Kitchener area which look useful/interesting.

People's Car: A car-sharing co-op. I don't have a driver's license, but [livejournal.com profile] f00dave does. This could potentially be quite handy.

BarterWorks: An alternative to cash for shopping and services. Once I get my job and can figure out a schedule, I want to start teaching dance again. Then I'll set myself up with this.

KiJiJi Kitchener: Free classified ads for the Kitchener area.

Oh, and Tasselhoff the enormous cat does NOT like to be forgotten on the balcony for an hour and a half during a thunderstorm.

[livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn blew my big silver ball. Thanks, Kathryn!

And now I'm off for still more bureacratic bullshit. Oh, student loan people, how I loathe thee.

When I played regular Sims, they pissed themselves all the time. My character had a licentious relationship with his mother. They were always making out and sleeping together in the same bed. No one else would have anything to do with him.

That happened to me when I first played the game,
too. Then a cop fined me for sleeping on the floor.
There is a spot in each area that has a bed, so
you can sleep there.

Your meters on the bottom left detail things like
entertainment, bathroom, cleanliness, and rest.
You have to keep those past the halfway mark so
that big face on the bottom stays happy. If your
mood sucks, you can't do anything right.

The good ways to interact with people are green
(I think), and those are the only interactions you
want to use. People in each area have a different
set of interactions that make them like you.

There is a cash register in each area that is where
you can buy things. There is a place in each area
where you work, by hitting various patterns of but-
tons, so as to get money.

The ultimate goal is to unlock the penthouse. Then
you're...done.

I suggest using walkthroughs.

the two best resource sites for PS2 games:

ps2.ign.com (ad heavy, but lots of good stuff)
gamefaqs.com (quality of information varies, but it's amazingly inclusive)

My girlfriend [livejournal.com profile] annamaryse has a very good friend who is involved in the Vancouver chapter of People's Car, and has nothing but raves about it.
