shanmonster: (Is that CLEAVAGE???)
Another day, another job interview. Today it's for filling out billing request forms for forty hours a week. I haven't even done the interview, and the job already makes me want to scream.

I think I'll pop by the gym today and see if the manager is free and has any questions regarding my application.

A week from today I have a dance performance in Toronto. I don't feel ready. I hope I'm ready once I'm there!

I want to go practice my dance routine this morning, but I'll have to wait until [livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn gets up. My computer doesn't have a CD burner, so I have to wait until she can burn it to disc before I can dance to it. The first half of my dance is poi. The second is floorwork. The pieces are very different from one another, and I hope they'll work together. I'm using glowsticks for the poi because fire isn't feasible, and undecorated tennis balls just look dumb. Now I have to go and find a store that sells glowsticks. That could be tricky....

Oh yes, and I have to figure out what to wear. I was going to go with my gold spandex flare pants, but if I do floorwork in them, I'll likely wreck them. Skirts are just plain out, as are any belts with lots of coins or long hanging fringe. Hmm.... Time to take another look through my dance closet, I guess!

Yesterday, I discovered there will be a hafla here in Kitchener this weekend. It will be good to meet local dancers. And if I'm lucky, I'll find someone to ride with to Toronto for my show. If not, I'll be bussing it, and that fills me with trepidation since I don't know the city at all, will be carrying a bunch of stuff, and have no idea how to get to the venue from the bus station.

There are times when I wonder if being a dancer is really worth it. It's so much work and hassle. But then I realize that no one can do the dancing for me. Watching is not the same as doing, ever, ever, ever. And that's why I drill and practice and listen instead of lying around on my arse all day.

And now it's time for some links.

Transvestite gang pesters Magazine Street: "The transvestites, Ogle said, appear to be ... fearless in their lust for designer shoes, jackets and jewelry."

Seksu Roba: Musical NSFW montage of "sexy" old robot and space sci-fi (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] balthcat). I recognize clips from 2069: A Sex Odyssey.

Grizzly bear sought after double escape from B.C. resort: "The bear bashed a nearly 400-pound steel door off its four bolts, destroyed an electrical box while tearing through two electric fences and scrambled over a 12-foot fence anchored with two feet of steel below ground." I'm guessing he really didn't want to be neutered.

Neighbors discover 4-foot shark while on daily desert walk: What? They've never heard of land sharks? I seem to recall meeting up with them quite often in gaming sessions.

I wish I could see you at the Toronto show... but - it's a heck of a long drive for just a show.

Incidently I bought a set of poi... they look something like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007W58EY/qid=1151674580/sr=8-6/ref=pd_bbs_6/002-2819874-8454410?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=3375251

at the last bellydance workshop I was at. I find the cords a bit too long for my beginner self - but I don't want to cut them just yet.

Huh. I didn't know Amazon sold poi. Neat!

You don't have to cut the cords. You can always wrap them.

hmmm. I'll have to give that a try.

You can find glowsticks at a dollar store. The best place to look is the Dollarama at the Frederick Mall.

Thanks! Now I need to find Frederick Mall.

North on Queen to Weber. Right onto Weber, left onto Frederick.

Never mind, now I *know* you're coming to the Kitchener hofla. My husband and I will be performing (to I know not what) so do come say hi...I haven't the faintest idea what I'll be wearing, but I'm the one with long black hair who's not Japanese. :)

Yep! And if you spot me first, do say hi!

hey man, where are you dancing next week? Ansuya show?
(which reminds me I have to buy tickets... ) . Why don't you post on raks toronto asking if anyone from Kitchener is going to Ansuya?

Date: 2006-07-02 06:25 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com
Yup! That's the place.

I'm going to ask around at the hafla tonight to see if anyone's going to the show. If I can't get a ride, I'll post on raks toronto.

I'd offer to come meet you at the station, but I can't get to the station till 7ish and that doesn't give you much time to get to the show before and prepare... hmmmm.... Let me see if I can find someone who can meet you there.

P.P.S it's not far at all from the station... about a 20 min walk

That's good!

I don't know, yet. I'm still trying to find a ride there, so I don't need to take the bus.
