shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)
Yesterday I watched a fire fighters' competition. Large men in heavy suits ran up and down flights of stairs carrying heavy hoses, hand-over-handed hose up several stories, sledge-hammered some sort of battering ram, ran a slalom course, grabbed a fire hose and shot a target, then dragged a 175-pound dummy to "safety," all under a blazing hot sun while crazed Portuguese soccer fans let loose with a cacophony of cheers and car horns. At the end of the course, the men collapsed and were stripped down by attendants. It was a brutal competition, and I'm amazed at just how hard a person can push themself.

Afterwards, I walked with [livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn and the newly-met Julian to Victoria Park where we had a water fight in the water playground. After drying off and having supper, we watched The Apple as well as fireworks being set off all across the city.

This morning an eagle soared past my bedroom window. I watched as it wended its way downtown, high above the other buildings.

I love my view.

I just looked at this light-painted photo [livejournal.com profile] f00dave took of me a couple of years ago. I love light-painting, and would love to be involved in more photo shoots of the sort.

Now I'm off for some more dance practice. Tonight, I go to a hafla, and then I'm back to gaming. I'm hoping I can fit a much-needed nap in there somewhere. Sleep has been a rare commodity, as of late.

You have very pretty feet.

Thank you! They're pretty sore, too. I really need to find myself a doctor up here. My foot is still sore from that misstep a couple of weeks ago.

That's a really good picture

Thanks! It was a real team effort. There are ropes and bits of string all over, holding the fabric in place. A helper stood precariously on a chair holding things just so, and [livejournal.com profile] f00dave was doing the light-painting and photography.

I really love the photo!

Thanks! I do, too. Most of my favourite photos of myself were done with light-painting.

Well Hello Miss ShanMonster!

After realizing that I see quite a bit of your on my friends list, I decided to do a little investigation. The search of the illusive Shanmonster. This led me here, where I was compelled to befriend you.;) I hope you do not mind..;)

Have a wonderful Day, and feel free to pop by my LJ if you ever get bored..

When I moved into my second story apartment near Eglinton
West one summer, a firefighter (my girlfriend-at-the-time's
uncle) helped me. That guy was an amazing machine. He was
probably ten years or more older than I, but he carried box
after box on his shoulders in the heat down a flight of
stairs and up another to get to my apartment. At the end,
even though I thought I was in good shape, I was covered in
sweat and exhausted, and he seemed totally fine.

I think there might really be something to meat-eating.
Taurine, maybe?

What kind of eagle was it? I'm sure I've already mentioned
that I find it pretty ironic that the only bald eagle my
sister and I have ever seen was in Canada.

That. Is an awe-inspiring picture of you. Although I don't know what light-painting means. Perhaps I will have to look it up.

Leave the shutter open on your camera for some longish period of time (a few seconds, to a few minutes), and flood the scene with light from a flashlight, candles, lighter, matches, sparklers, fireworks, glowsticks ... whatever! Guesstimating the proper exposure time is an artform, especially considering reciprocity failure is nonlinear past a few fractions second or so for most film, highly so for exposures on the order of minutes. But it's fun! =)

f00dave, I think I am just going to scoop you up because you and shanmonster are so close and I am so fond of her and she is so fond of you and you know. That's the way of lj land. Don't worry if you don't want to reciprocate. It's all good.
