shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)
I haven't even done my dance performance yet, and it's already been cursed.

Firstly, I mess up my foot a few weeks ago. It's still not better, and I open my piece with floorwork. Sometimes the floorwork makes my foot hurt like mad, and other times it's fine. Here's hoping it'll be fine tonight.

Secondly, I can't find glowsticks for my poi. Well, I finally found them, but much to my chagrin, realize they are badly made, and although they do glow, they do not stay together. The little hanger-doodad isn't attached, and when I do attach it, it doesn't stay put, meaning that the glowsticks will fly off as soon as I look at them, let alone start spinning the poi. I'm going to try sewing some sort of shiny fabric to my poi balls today. It had better work.

Thirdly, my transportation issues are becoming more and more complicated. I can get a ride to Toronto, but getting back is suddenly looking iffy. I may have to buy a Greyhound ticket, after all. I sure as hell hope I can find the bus terminal in Toronto late this evening.

I don't recall ever being stressed-out for a performance. I can't wait until it's over.

What about glueing the glowsticks together with a cement type epoxy?

If it will definitely hold, I could go for that. I'm rough on the suckers. I not only spin them around at high speed, but kick them, too. Would cement epoxy work?

The girl who was giving poi workshops used it, and it held fine for her. She would smack them together for reversals and stuff.

my poi teacher puts glowy things into a white crocheted hacky sack, and attaches the hacky sack to the poi-string. The glowy light shines out through the (mostly) clear beads filling the hacky sack. Does that make sense?

You can't buy these in time for tonight, but maybe you can rig up something similar. Here is a picture - the product he uses is called a firefly.

The bus terminal is here and ticket information can be found here.

I seem to recall you mentioning that the performance is on John St just up from Queen. That's a very short walk to the bus terminal itself, so if your ride flakes out, you still have that as an option.

Apparently, the Greyhound URL is wrong...try this one.

Worst come s to worst, you can probably crash with someone in TO and bus back tomorrow. Rob's couch is free, and there isn't anyone actually staying at Hazel's place, and there are chinchillas!

See you tonight!

Just remember to breathe, have fun and smile. Hossam Ramzy once said that Fifi Abdo only had 4 moves, which she executed beautifully, but it was her smile that won over the audience!
