shanmonster: (Dance Monkey Dance!)
I've finished my errands for the day, and now--at long last--I'm going to sit back and watch Dances For the Sultan with Tass before trundling off to work.

I'm through the day after tomorrow. Oh yes....

I have much dance ahead of me.

Dance homework for me includes mastering Dharlene's 3/4 shimmy. I've always done an up-down-out 3/4 shimmy. Hers is down-up-down, which is significantly different.

And it looks like I'll be performing a variation of Aziza's drum solo choreography in December. Yikes!

This Sunday, I'll be taking a private dance class with Neefa of Khafif. Here's hoping I can pick her brains but good!

And next week, I hope to do another day of Butoh with Denise Fujiwara.

My floorwork classes begin on Monday. Eep.

Once you get the up/down 3/4, have some fun and learn the down/up/down 3/4. :)

That's the one I'm working on....

me = "duh". I'm not reading for comprehension, apparently. Do you do the 3/4 on the up already? (not the up down out)

Yup! Although that's not my default 3/4 shimmy. I also do a twist shimmy with a 3:4 time signature: front-back-front or back-front-back. Not sure why I'd never really done the down-up-down one before, but it's breaking my brain. It keeps trying to morph into something different.

It makes my brain hurt, too. If I don't keep doing it, it goes away pretty quickly.

I love the down-up-down 3/4 shimmy. Just remember that your weight stays on the back leg.

Dharlene does both an up-down-up and a down-up-down shimmy, depending on the music and what she's trying to convey. I've always had a lot more trouble with the down-up-down version, especially if I have to do it fast.
