shanmonster: (Lost in a velvet morass)
The HEMF 8 performance went better than I anticipated. I was actually feeling quite neutral about the whole thing, having never worked with PIMP-T before, and having never worked with Rod except when he was firmly ensconced behind his drum kit. But when we did our rehearsal on Friday night, after a gruelling five-hour drive, I could see something magical happen, or scientific, I guess. You see, we had chemistry! The act began to crystallize, and as we worked together, I could see that something wonderful was going to happen the next night.

And it did. Although I have certainly danced better, the onus was no longer strictly upon me as a performer. The attention was evenly divided amongst us, taking off an enormous amount of pressure. Our set was a half-hour long. It was the easiest performance of my life, and also one of the most effective. I got to see video footage of it afterwards. My raqs sharqi meshed with PIMP-T's popping and locking in a most amazing way. I wore my copper coin bra, tribal belt, gold pantaloons, and a burgundy circular skirt, hair hidden beneath a glittery long scarf. PIMP-T wore a blue track suit with PIMP-T emblazoned on the back and an enormous chain around his neck. While Rod played djembe in the background clad in shades, a seaman's coat, and a tophat, PIMP-T and I had a dance-off. You could practically see energy beams crackling off us!

I don't want to give away all the costume changes and secrets of the performance, because it looks like we'll be performing again this weekend in Fredericton (at the Elk's Lodge). If you're around, you really ought to check it out. Freaky Scene is quite the spectacle, and you won't be disappointed. Hell, we even made a woman in the audience scream like she was being attacked! Heh heh heh....

I do wonder how touring productions do it, though. All this travel this month has left me an exhausted wreck. I'm thinking of calling in sick for school tomorrow. I'm just so freaking tired. And on that note, I'm off to bed.

I'm not entirely sure, but think it might be around 11:30 on Saturday night.
