Today was my last textiles class of the year. I'm sad. I really like weaving and working with colours. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to do more weaving before the year is out, but I don't hold much hope for it. My schoolwork and dance are the be-all and end-all of my existence. I hope to take more textiles classes in January, though. Today's class ended with a bang. We had a dirty mother swap, or naked lady party! I brought in a few garments which were greedily snatched up, and in exchange, I walked away with some awesome stuff. I scored a heavily-embroidered lilac wrap-around skirt from India, a heavily-embroidered turquoise cotton dress (I may reuse the embroidery in other projects, because the dress is a little too cutesy for me as is), a pair of suede MaryJanes, and three pairs of pants. Not too shabby!
I was planning on going to a gallery opening at 5, but Mom called me and told me she'd be by around 4:30. Well, she completely stood me up. Ah well. I missed the gallery opening (with free booze, at that!), but did get some reading done. I'm really enjoying Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb (thanks, Curtana!). I've enjoyed all of the books, despite daunting warnings by well-wishers about their depressing subject matter. Really, I'm not finding it all that soul-crushing. I'm finding it very interesting, instead! It's a great zombie story, and I don't know if it's intentional, but it seems a big ol' obvious allegory for the evils of homophobia, too. Not that the latter is what makes the book particularly interesting to me--it's just something I've noted.
My migraine seems to be receding very, very slowly. It is receding, though. I'm almost sure of it. Almost.
Tomorrow's dance performance looms ahead of me. Won't you come and watch? I promise it will be entertaining! Once again, I'm performing with Freaky Scene at the Elks' Lodge on 218 Brunswick Street in Fredericton, NB. I'll be on around 11:00 pm, but there will be other acts on before us (hiphop and rock). It's just $5, and open for all ages. Come, come, come!

Date: 2003-10-25 04:41 pm (UTC)From:Robin's gotten the "reminds me of homophobia" comment before, but apparently has nothing to do with it. (Funny you should bring that up, given where you are in the books...) Not sure when she posted that, but I think it was withint the past few months. (She has a webgroup on sff.net that she posts to when she's not at signings in the UK. *grumble grumble*)
*points at icon* You interested in one of these?

Date: 2003-10-25 04:52 pm (UTC)From:I checked out her homepage earlier today, and noted that she forbids fanfic. Heh. Good luck. Somewhere out there is a Shrewd/Fool story. Eep.
As for the earring, that's really pretty! If I had pierced ears, I would like one. But my virgin ears would hear of no such thing....

Date: 2003-10-25 05:11 pm (UTC)From:She takes humor just fine, though, thank god. Otherwise most of us Hobblings would be out of luck. Essays about the Fitzon and Foolon subatomic particles, wisecracks about Kettricken *cough*, and how I apparently forced Robin to write a more "adult" ending to the third trilogy.
Lemme see if I can come up with something about the earring. Won't be the first time I've changed the backing.

Thank ye!

I shall wait for the time you discover the crossover character. ;)
