Last night's performance went fine aside from one big problem: a lack of an audience. It's so disheartening to put out something you know people will like only to have a handful of people view it. I figure there were about ten people in the audience, and a bunch of those were members of the band who played before us. I feel especially sorry for Rod who came all the way from Halifax in a dying car just for this. He couldn't even recoup the cost of his gas. Hell, we didn't make even a blasted cent on this gig. Sad, sad, sad. But at least the good folks who were there last night enjoyed themselves.
I think it's particularly telling that my best-received gigs are the ones out of town. Halifax and Saint John both had decent-sized audiences, but Fredericton has none. What's with that?
A friend of Rod's came to Fredericton with him. His name is Lee, and I gave him crash space last night. He's a pretty nice guy: a rivethead potter/ceramicist carrying a couple of boxes of unfinished pottery to be fired in a wood kiln. He wants me to DJ an industrial set in Halifax. If I have the time, transportation, and accomodation, sure. But those are three persnickety variables.
I've been working on my blasted tribal belt all day. Every time I think I'm almost done, I realize I have much more work to do. It's quite frustrating. Soon, I'll be going back to school to put the finishing touches on some more silverwork. I have yet to start my big drawing due tomorrow. Oh dear. I want more time and fewer migraines.
