Dad came through surgery well. He was supposed to go home this weekend, but his heart is still swollen and his heartbeat irregular. He's being kept at the hospital until both of these conditions clear up. After that, he'll be under twenty-four-hour supervision for eight weeks to ensure he does nothing for himself. He's not even to open the fridge, as that takes about five pounds' pressure, and that's enough to tear open his chest and let him bleed out.

After eight weeks, he gets an assessment, and we'll see how it goes from there.

As it stands, it looks like he's retired from work, which is a good thing. He was being treated abhorrently at work, and this was a huge source of stress and general consternation. Perhaps he can get into teaching, instead. I think he'd do much better at that.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] gha5t and [livejournal.com profile] lindalicious should be here in a matter of minutes, which is about twenty-four hours sooner than I was expecting them!

And [livejournal.com profile] f00dave will be flying out to San Francisco within the next hour for a business meeting, and returning early Tuesday morning.

Craziness all around....

Here are some links so I can clear out my browser tabs again. Enjoy!

Richard Dawkins: The Root of all Evil: You can watch the whole thing online, here.

One-Legged King Pigeon Pose: One of the prettiest yoga asanas, IMO.

Math: Progressive or Reactionary?: Crazy politics within the math kingdom.

How Skeptic magazine was Duped by an Environmental Activist Group: I stand corrected, as well. The Grand Canyon is really old, and park workers are allowed to say so.

Flying Spaghetti Monster Hat: Crochet your own, and crochet one for me, too!

Sock Monkey Dress: I think I need this dress.

A Woman From Inside Out: Bare bones art....

Good news thus far. I shudder to think of my dad in such a state. Not least because he *could not be stopped* from doing things.

Hope he continues to improve without impediment!

That's really cool. Apart from the stockings under jeans, which would totally never happen.

Hurray! I'm so glad to hear that your dad is okay!

I'm a poet and didn't know it!

Thank you for loaning me your futon mattress...it was so nice not to have to sleep on the bare floor.

... I think you'll have to fight me for the dress. You probably didn't know that I make sock monkeys and have had my George since I was 2 and 1/2 and he's even run away and come back to me at Burning Man. Make sure I show you my sock monkey portrait book, and when you sleep over next time I expect to see your sock monkey (it seems that you must have one if you need to have that dress :)

I have seen that dress in person.

I have a deep and abiding fear of sock monkeys. My mom never permitted me to to give mine away to charity.

The dress is a terrible thing.

Shan, I'm glad your father came through the surgery OK. I hope he recovers well.

I am glad your dad is OK. It is frightening when your parents are having heart issues.

I love the hat, too bad I don't have time to crochet these days. I have several unfinished crochet projects staring at me as it is.
