shanmonster: (Don't just sing it--bring it!)
Apparently, we now have cable television, whether we want it or not. I've never had cable television, and have never wanted it. The internet is a big enough time suck for me, let alone getting stuck watching the boob tube for hours at a time.

We also have a huge, black, unsightly cable running through our apartment. It's a serious tripping hazard. If we want it "installed" (I guess that means tucked away nicely), we have to pay for it. What the hell?

I've half a mind to take a pair of shears to it and "install" it myself.

egads, same here. i spend altogether too much time on the eenternet.

That sounds about right (for certain values of 'right', anyway). Your apartment complex probably just signed an agreement with the cable company to provide basic service to all units, so they came up and provided you with the most basic of service.

Installation may or may not mean actually running cable through the walls to wherever you might want the cable outlet. Just coil it up where it comes out of the wall and pretend it isn't there any more.

Unfortunately, the way the incompetent installers did that, if we unplug the cable and coil it up, we lose our internet. [livejournal.com profile] f00dave is going to have to get a splitter box and fix it himself, rather than pay someone to come in and fix the thing we didn't want in the first place.

Oh, duh. I didn't realize you were getting cable Internet. That definitely makes my suggestion a teensy bit of a problem.

Make sure you get a decent splitter, by the way. A lot of the average-to-cheap ones that they sell at Rat Shack don't dampen signal noise very well, which can lead to lousy bitrates or loss of 'net connection. Something with a 3.5dB signal loss should be good, but much higher than that and you could be in trouble.

That's so very strange. We have a lovely white cable that is not in the way at all. It actually looks better than what we had before.

We have a big black cable running from the patio door to [livejournal.com profile] f00dave's computer. It sticks out by the dining room table. It is oh so very chic.

We experimented by plugging it into the tv. Yes, we indeed have cable. However, due to the incompetence of the installers, if we watch cable tv, we no longer have internet. Hoorah!

Trip over your cable, go to the doctor or hospital, then sue. They'll tuck it away nicely for free.

Wait until your next Kung Fu injury to "trip." It's always better to have a real owie to show the nice lawyers.

I used to know some not so nice people.

Now there's an idea....

Cable = Devil.

I got a splitter from the cable company because I have digital cable and internet. My net connections were really unstable so I ended getting a splitter made by Monster Cable. No problems here!
