Today I'm off to Toronto again, this time to go see the CanAsian International Dance Festival. If I'd had the money, I'd have been training with the butoh dancer, but it had to wait. At least I get to see him perform.
Tonight is also the night of a Rachel Brice performance. She comes to Toronto frequently enough that I'm sure I will get to see her. Soon, I hope, although studying with her remains elusive. Workshops with her often cost around $600, and that is about six times my budget. Bah.
Before I go, here are some funky links for you to smell.
Camel Book Drive: The Camel Bookmobile "brings books to a semi-nomadic people who live with drought, famine and chonic poverty. The books are spread out on grass mats beneath an acacia tree, and the library patrons, often barefoot, sometimes joined by goats or donkeys, gather with great excitement to choose their books until the next visit" (thanks,
officialgaiman).
Naked Ape: Fashion Freak: A nifty little music video featuring Eurobeats, sexy zombie girls, and a clean car (thanks,
fourcorners).
Bacon-Flavoured Mints: So very, very wrong. I want a tin.
Court upholds N.Y. ban on dancing in bars: "Recreational dancing is not a form of expression protected by the federal or state constitutions."
Fetish Cafes Cater to Geeks: "Named after a manga comic book and a short-lived '90s TV show about six Japanese 'office ladies,' Shomuni features an all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink menu served by 15 costumed waitresses who start off dressed like receptionists and end up handcuffing patrons to their tables in sexy police uniforms."
Robot swarms 'evolve' effective communication: Sci-fi comes to life. Look out for the malevolent robot armies. "Robots that artificially evolve ways to communicate with one another have been demonstrated by Swiss researchers. The experiments suggest that simulated evolution could be a useful tool for those designing of swarms of robots" (thanks,
tdj).
