Today's clip features excerpts from Musée des Femmes by Desert Sin, an alternative belly dance troupe based out of California. I love the subversive theatricality, the costuming, and the experimental nature of their dance.

(I believe my dance bears much more in common with what these artists are doing than with any other type of belly dance, but that's beside the point.)

Warning: Possibly NSFW due to body paint being used more than costumes....

That looks supremely fun!

I love them.

Aside from being wonderfully creative, entertaining, talented, inspiring, and seeming to have a really strong work ethic and do-it-yourself production spirit, they are also proof that fusion and wild creativity can mesh perfectly and respectfully and interestingly with belly dance when done by talented movers who actually know how to do straight belly dance*, and do it well.

If I had just said that out loud I would be gasping for my next breath.

Thanks for sharing the clip!

*erm, whatever that might mean, eh?!

*poke poke*

I'm going to see the Pennsylvania Ballet preform Serenade to the Carmina Burana in a couple weeks. I can't find pictures anywhere and am totally unfamiliar with the ballet. What should I expect? Isn't it usually done to Tchaikovsky? I thought I read that somewhere ...

Thank you o source of dance info!

Sorry, but my knowledge of ballet is very limited. Your question shows you know far more about it than I do!

I saw that show live! it was fantastic.

What I found most disturbing...

...was that it really sounded like part of that first techno remix was the theme from Knightrider.

Not sure if I'm disturbed that they used it, or that I recognized it...

btw, since you're a graduate of Midori's class, you might enjoy the link to the gallery of work I did this weekend over on my journal. Or not. Just thought I'd letcha know.
Yes. The Knightrider theme was remixed into a bhangra tune. I blinked a few dozen times the first time I heard it (a couple of years back).

I'll have to check out the gallery!

Awesome clip! I actually found their site awhile back and was entranced; I so wish I could see them live. :P
