Today's clip features a drum solo by belly dancer Maiada of Argentina. Despite the increasing sheen on her body, her movements look effortless. Watch for the Turkish drop around five minutes in.

It must be exhausting to make such tiny controlled motions like that for prolonged periods of time. Exhausting and hot. I'm sure the large amount of hair on her head doesn't help her stay cool or anything, either. lol

No, the hair certainly doesn't help with the cooling. Her hair looks pretty much identical to mine, before I got it cut, and it's like dancing with a big fur coat on your head.

That being said, I'm growing my hair out again. Heh....

You're right on the "making this look effortless" part! Though I am sure people have said that about your own performances!

Every time someone does a Turkish drop, I feel my heart drop to my stomach. The very concept scares the hell out of me and yet I know how to do this in such a way as to avoid injury. I've also been told to avoid it after age 40!

Once upon a time, I was determined I'd learn how to do Turkish drops. And then I got whiplash (unrelated), and decided I never wanted to risk something so painful.

I'll settle with my slow drops to the floor from standing. They're much safer.
