I am coming to the strange realization that after three and half decades of steadfastly disliking electric guitars that I am actually starting to like metal. Heck, I didn't even like a lot of acoustic guitar music, despite having taken ukulele and guitar lessons in the past.
I still heartily dislike the squealing mosquito-like noodlings of guitar solos, but other than that, I'm finding myself grooving along with heavy guitar tunes. How did this happen?
Admittedly, I've been listening to a lot of metal lately. Most weekends, I hang out with DJ Schwartzung, a guitarist and metal aficionado. But it's not like I haven't been exposed to a lot of metal in the past. I was the music director for an alternative radio station, and listened to a lot of it then.
Is it perhaps a gradual thing that's snuck up on me over the years? Some of my favourite bands have been incorporating more and more guitar into their music. Perhaps electric guitar is an acquired taste, like beer and dulse.
By the way, I suspect dulse-flavoured beer would be an abomination, no matter how much acclimatising took place.
Time for links now, isn't it?
Andy Serkis Interview: Wherein we hear Gollum's sex sounds.
The Difference Between Nuclear Weapons: Some nukes are good. Some are bad. Here's how to tell the difference (thanks,
gha5t).
Cosplay Transformers: These people are much bigger nerds than I can ever hope to be.
Tribally Yours: This is where I'll be this weekend. I didn't even know they had a dedicated website until today.
In preparation for my show, I went and got hairs hauled out of me today. This time around, I managed to find a gentle aesthetician (well, as gentle as a waxer can be, that is). My pits barely ache. I guess the true test will be tonight's dance and kung fu classes.
I am alone, all alone, until the weekend.
f00dave has left for New Brunswick to hang out with mourners. His poor old grandmother has died, and I fear the vultures are swooping in. Let the games begin. Here's hoping he can keep sane in the midst of all this. I know I'm driven to wit's end on the best of days there.
In other news, I am currently in tentative negotiations for teaching another series of floorwork classes. It might be daytime, which means my classes would likely be tiny, but that's ok by me. I'd rather be teaching one or two people than not teaching at all.
