shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)
I've linked to today's dance clip a few months back, but I think it's worth showcasing again. These are excerpts from The False David by butoh performer Imre Thormann. I'm impressed by his strength and utter control, both of gross motor movements and tiny, precise facial expressions. Ugliness is beautiful, too.

I love Thormann so very much. Have you seen the workshop video clip of him making his students carry around a bicycle on pitchforks? He takes a crazy dive off a bike in the darkness too - it's quite trippy.

No, I haven't! Do you have a link?

Sadly, it seems Thormann never teaches outside of Europe. One day I hope to do a mega-workshop trip to Germany to study with him and Yumiko Yoshioka! Mmm.

Hello! Me dropping in again...I've been appreciating your daily dance clips very much. Thank you.

This man is absolutely amazing. And the geek side of my brain says New Line Cinema shoulda cast him as Gollum and saved a boatload of money on CGI costs.

You're welcome!

And yeah, he would do a great Gollum, wouldn't he?

Any time you come across (good) Butoh videos, send the URLs my way. I'm hoping to find a whole performance uploaded somewhere sometime :/ All I get are clips. Hell one is a photomontage. It's a movement art form, what use are photos ;_;

Anyway, I find myself, late at night, craving the ugly, despairing, pathetic movements of Butoh...
