shanmonster: (Peeking)
We have an air conditioner! I'm hoping it's powerful enough to handle the apartment. I've shut the doors to the other rooms (giving me the hot office I'm used to), but the chinchillas now reside in cool air.

I vowed to get back up to snuff with my exercise starting on Monday, and so far, I'm doing well. I've been running daily. I did a lot better today than I did yesterday. Of course, I've also developed shin splints, so I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I spent more time warming up this morning before my run. Hopefully, that will do the trick and the tops of my feet and lower shins will feel much better shortly. I think I'll check out the Running Room and see if they're holding any free running clinics. I'm a shitty runner, and could really use some tips.

... Damn. They all cost money. Ah well.

Kung fu was good last night. We were working on Luk Sao (rolling hands), and for the first time, my shoulders weren't aching. It would seem that when my thighs and shins ache, that I don't carry tension in my shoulders and do the exercise properly. I ought to be in pain more often during kung fu! Ha!

They will be forced to put a warning label on their product that warns the consumer that the product might actually melt in their hand.

One thing though, the plaintiff in the Starburst case isn't suing for millions, just enough to cover her "rehab" ... which makes this case (or the plaintiff anyway) a more terrible threat to humanity than if she were just an opportunist seeking a quick few $million. Can anyone guess why?

For pain in your shins, try stretching your calves, thoroughly. I find it helps me when I'm doing any kind of exercise that causes sharp pain in my shins.

I used to get shin splints all the time,
even in high school soccer. My very simple
solution was to just raise onto my tiptoes
ten times in a row before I began running,
thereby stretching my calf and...shin
muscle...

It worked every time, even into my late
20s. I'm trying to find a similar solution
for my groin now, but cock pushups are
still beyond my...reach.

Thanks! I shall try that. I feel better today than I did last night. So maybe my body's acclimatising itself....

Also, is that Women in Western Art video
chronological? It seems vaguely so, at
least.

What kind of shoes are you wearing to run in? Bad or old running shoes can cause you problems; good ones are one thing it is actually worthwhile to spend money on. I noticed that when my running shoes started to wear out (they were like 1.5 years old, YMMV), I started to get pain in my knees, for instance. If you go to a decent athletic store (maybe one of the big running rooms) they can look at your stride and the wear pattern on your old shoes and help you find a good shoe to suit your needs. I've heard some palces will even have a treadmill they can watch you run on, but I've never been to one myself.

I have really good running shoes. One of the head dudes from the Running Room in Fredericton helped me pick them out. He was very thorough in his analysis of my feet and my walking/running patterns.

Probably just a period of adjustment to running then. Boo running. Every time I start up after having slacked off for too long, I get various pains. Haven't had shin splints in a while though, thank goodness.

Remember that other lawsuit (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/25/AR2007062500443.html)? It's over now.

And that J-Date guy? Oy!

Along the lines of what others have said, try these (http://smiweb.org/massage/downloads/achilles.pdf), and take it easy with running for a while.

The Running Room does have a (I believe free) running club, which is probably full of the same people who run the clinics. Good way to get free advice? Or just annoying gathering of yuppies? ..not sure, but it may be worth a try.
