shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)
Good day! I've been remiss in writing here because I've been rather busy with writing (and reading) elsewhere. But I have also put together a rather large collection of links for you.

Enjoy!

R Young Art: Knife paintings of dancers. Nice stuff, really!

Rat-brained robot thinks like the real thing: "A robot controlled by a simulated rat brain has proved itself to be a remarkable mimic of rodent behaviour in series of classic animal experiments." Just because software can be programmed to act a certain way does not mean it is thinking. Something tells me these robots don't laugh when they play, like real rats do. Something tells me these robots don't play. This is not thinking. This is a crude facsimile of the process.

Man pummels 'vampire' peacock: Oh, the weirdness factor!

Man Walking on Water: A truly inspirational candid camera idea.

The Wang Saen Suk Hell Garden, Thailand: "There’s nothing subtle about the Wang Saen Suk Monastery garden, 90 minutes drive south of Bangkok, apart from its location, hidden down a quiet lane not far from the coastal resort of Bang Saen. At the entrance, a brightly coloured sign proclaims “Welcome To Hell”, while beyond lies a garish, in-your-face morality tale of sawn torsos, boiling vats and devilish figures tormenting worldly sinners."

Gas Mask Shower Head: I want one!

Pool drain rips out part of girl’s intestinal tract: Shades of Palahniuk's story Guts (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] doyce).

A Stunning Photo of a Woman in Rome: One of those serendipitous moments when the right subject and the right lighting come together.

DDR Finger: This guy plays the game obscenely fast. Just how long does it take someone to memorize a level like this?

Dumbness at McDonald's: The customer really, really, really isn't always right.

Disgusting Belly Dancer: The bride really doesn't look impressed.

Tummy fat 'can grow new breasts': Much to my disappointment, this isn't a story on supernumerary boobs.

Nanosphere: Self-cleaning fabric. I wonder if this would work on diapers?

Should we simplify spelling?: I don't think so. I found the parts written in simplified English substantially slowed my reading and comprehension.

For the DDR Finger YouTube clip you provided, interestingly enough you have a clip that is a choice after the movie's over. ShanMonster's Costume Malfunction. Very interesting...

Simplified spelling

In my somewhat OCD state, I found myself staring at words that were "misspelled" and correcting every single one of them in my mind. The funny thing is, I never got past the first "simplified" paragraph she wrote. I have a condition where if I see a misspelled word in anything I am reading, I find it utterly impossible from that point forward to read the material for content, instead focusing on editorializing the entire work. If this occurs early in a novel, for instance, on many occasions, I'll put the work down and never pick it up again. If it occurs in a magazine article, I'll skip the rest of it. If it happens late in a book, I cannot focus on the ending. If someone asks me how the book ends, I won't be able to tell them anything other than something along the lines of "With an error..." Sucks to be me sometimes. And typos (especially mine) kill me. Even more so after I've submitted something. With that knowledge, know that this comment was spell checked 11 times before I clicked submit.
