shanmonster: (Spasmolytic)
Protected in your boundless infamy,
For dissoluteness cherished, loved and praised
On pyramids of your own vices raised
Above the reach of law, reproof, or shame
-- John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, Valentinian

I would find grievous ways to have thee slain,
Intense device, and superflux of pain.
-- Algernon Charles Swinburne, Anactoria

Better than crypts and candles were my friendships,
Better than leaf and parchment was my grief.
-- D.M. Thomas, Elegy for Isabelle le Despenser

I am in blood
Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more,
Returning were as tedious as go o'er.
-- William Shakespeare, Macbeth

There is no feast without cruelty.
-- Friedrich Nietzsche

Oh yeah. Links.

Barbecued Alaska: Mmm. Bacon. Mmm. Ice cream. Mmm. Bacon ice cream? Uh...

BittersweetsNY: I really like the earthworm bracelets.

Anomalies and Curiosities of Medicine: I really wanted this book when I was a kid.

Nerve gas antidote made by goats: This seems so very random to me.

Dan Osman - Speed rock climbing: He scales a 400' sheer cliff (without any ropes or other tools) in 4:25. Dan Osman eventually died in a climbing mishap.

Anti-Pornography Propaganda Video from the 60s: The monologue is quite hysterically funny. Porn is bad, mmkay? And here's a whole wack of kinky images so you know just how bad it is? Let's linger on those boobs and butt cracks.

Forget the bouquet: Bride tosses groom: No kissing. Just break falls.

Sako Kojima: Sako is a human hamster.

School with call centre training site in classroom criticised for lowering pupils' expectations: I say we get 'em early, crush their spirits while they're young rather than let them spend decades in schooling only to find themselves in a dead-end job.

If you're interested in medical anomolies and are ever in Philadelphia, check out the Mutter Museum. It's a medical treasure trove of preserved 'specimens' of various medical abnormalities. Not for the squeamish, as you're quite literally surrounded by dead people in jars and cases.
