shanmonster: (Dance Monkey Dance!)
Yolanda "Tongolele" Montes does a bizarre falling down and rolling around dance at the end of this clip.

I'm not terribly fond of her costume, but that's just how dancers dressed around 1949.

My favorite aspect is how intently the women are watching and enjoying her dance. There's no annoying, bitchy jealousy or acting-all-in-a-huff over the guys in the audience watching.

Looks and sounds very Caribbean. What movie is this from? Maybe the end part is supposed to imitate something SanterĂa in nature? Very cool.

Do you know if there are any old-school Apache dance material from French kinoscopes out there Shan?

I went looking a while ago on YouTube, but apparently as soon as you searched "Apache" on YouTube at the time, all you would get were Native American materials.

[EDIT] whoops - my bad, apparently someone's uploaded a few since...
