shanmonster: (Shh...)
I've been practicing spoken Latin for a while. I'm finally getting to the point where I no longer sound like I'm using a bad Italian accent. Whee!

I also tried my hand at some calligraphy today. I only had a ballpoint pen handy. I must get a good pen set, at some point. I wish there was a stationery shop in downtown Kitchener. Ah well! Although I need to practice my uniformity and spacing, I'm not too displeased at this first attempt, which is based off the Ludovicos font/hand. I do not like the "q" as I find it looks too much like a "g", so I'll probably change it up a bit on my next pass.

The writing is my own composition. I hope it's grammatically sound.

[Latin calligraphy]

Any calligraphers in the house? Critiques? Criticisms?

I think with a proper calligraphy pen your writing would look less weak, can't comment on the latin though.

The most important thing to remember in calligraphy is that aesthetics matter. It's really drawing, not writing. As a result, attention to detail such as consistency amongst letters, evenness of strokes, and attention to serifs matter tremendously.

Also I would not recommend starting with that font. There are several basic strokes used in many calligraphy letters that should be practiced over and over until they are consistent. Example (with crummy soundtrack):

I would start with the Italic calligraphic style since it is basic but contains all the elements used in other styles such as serifs and interlinked letters.

Fark says for want of furries, this is what they have in Russia. One NSFW (maybe).
