Here I am, hard at work at school. Ok, so maybe I'm taking a break. That's ok, though. I plan on being here for hours and hours. I may have to skip kung fu, because everything is due next week, and I still have a lot to accomplish.
Right now, I'm redoing a couple of my rings: the disco rings. The way I originally had them was just not good enough for my liking. The bands are just too thin. So I made heavier bands, and instead of soldering thick wire onto it for a riveting post, I instead used a silver tube. Then, I drilled down through the tube into the band below. This leaves me with a hole all the way through, which I think is much more interesting, and it also goes along with a design motif in my other pieces. Right now, I have the spinning tops for my rings in the tumbler, getting nice and shiny. The bands I've been polishing by hand.
Yesterday, as I was packing up to leave for the day, I noticed a first year student hard at work at the desk next to mine. She was hunched way over, her saw at a thirty-degree angle, sawing really, really quickly, with strokes each about an inch long. I looked at her and said, "Would you like a bit of advice?"
"Sure!" she said.
"Lower your chair so you can saw at a right angle to your piece. This will be a lot easier on your back, and you'll get more control over your blade. And take much longer, slower strokes. When you go really fast like that, it heats up the metal, making it swell enough to catch your blade. You'll break more blades, going really fast like that."
"Ok, thanks!" she said, and continued doing everything exactly what she'd been doing it before.
Ah well.
Now, I'd better get back to work. I have some sanding that needs to get done....

I lost a mess of 'em (mostly Cage links, IIRC), though, when 'Zilla choked on a Java app the other day. So I'm hunting for posts to reply to.
