I'm finishing up the bodice pattern-drafting workshop this afternoon. I have learned that apparently I have very broad shoulders for someone my size. I'm not sure that's true, but who knows? In any case, I'm looking forward to having a pattern drafted specifically to fit me. I'd like to make a suede bodice.
I got started on my poetry-reading kick when I quit playing Farmville a while back. I haven't missed the game at all, and I've read rather a lot of poetry, most of which sucks. But when I do find something that moves me, I share it with you. I hope you find at least some of them as thought-provoking as I do.
My writing continues. I'm in the middle of writing a dialogue between two very different characters, and it's challenging, especially when I've been in the headspace of one of them for a long time. It's tricky to put myself in the mindset of a fundamentally different character, but it's a good mental exercise, I think.
Lately, I've been feeling rather like I'm stuck in the middle of a game of keepaway. Things get offered, then taken away once I get the taste for them. As a recent example, I just won a guest pass to the Epica show in London, tomorrow. I was all excited to go, but bus/train tickets are prohibitively expensive, so I likely won't be able to go, after all. Damn. I'm getting paranoid that I'll have to stop believing good things will happen until I'm in medias res. I'm trying not to feel paranoid, but sometimes it's hard work.
I'm still waiting to hear back about whether or not I got the dance scholarship. Planning anything goes all to hell when my schedule is so uncertain.
Link time? Ok.
Rib Stretch Hat: I'd like to try this hat next. I've been on a hat-making extravaganza, and am currently knitting what I call a harf (which is not better than calling it a scat): a hat that's long enough to also wear as a scarf. It's a thing that's so terrible that it's kinda beautiful. Right now, it's almost four feet long.
Metamaterial 'Space-Time Cloak' Conceals Not Just Objects, But Entire Events: This hurts my brain.
Human Foreskins are Big Business for Cosmetics: Yum.
Honey and Pine Nut Tart: I'd like to try this recipe out. I haven't done much cooking with pine nuts.
