I've been doing quite a bit of crafting lately. Not only have I made more Viking clothes (a pair of poofy Rus-style Viking pants, most recently), but I've also continued experimenting with tablet weaving. Here are some photos of my most recent creations:

This is me in action. I'm weaving a thin band, which I plan on using for trim on a Viking tunic.
[Weaving]

This is my first tablet weaving project. You can see a mistake in the weave right here. Notice how in the middle the zigs when the rest is made of zags? That's because a couple of the cards got flipped the wrong way around. I know how to correct that, in the future. The design itself is simple, but also a pain in the arse. I keep turning the cards in one direction, which means that the far end of my working area gets tangled, and I have to keep pausing to untangle all the threads.
[My belt]

A photo of me wearing one of my woven belts very wrong. This one is cotton and cotton/acrylic. It's about the same thickness as a standard leather belt, and feels soft like a new, high-quality t-shirt. This pattern is similar to the one in the previous picture, but easier in that the threads do not tangle. I turn the cards forward for a few weaves, then back again for the same number. This means the threads continue to disentangle themselves. Much friendlier to work with!
[Kyle's belt]

This is my first attempt at a zigzag pattern. It turned out decently. I used cotton thread. Like the last photo, this is a design that reverses on itself and therefore disentangles the yarn.
[Trim]

And this is the piece I finished this morning. It's a mixture of yarns: rayon, wool, and cotton. I think this is the prettiest piece I've made, to date. It is also much more uniform in width and texture than my previous pieces. I think I leveled up. I had attempted to make a solid border, but you can only see a hint of that. Next time, I'll use additional cards to make the border wider.
[Zigzag trim]

I've also been sewing. Here are a few photos of works in progress, and finished pieces.

These are the winingas I made for [livejournal.com profile] knightky. They are 10 cm wide, and about 4 meters long. Normally, winingas are a bit shorter, but Kyle has very muscular calves, so I erred on the side of caution. They fit him just right.

Up next are a pair of poofy Rus-style Viking pants in the making. This gives you an idea of just how much fabric goes into a pair of these things. And the next time I make a pair, I'll make the legs even larger. I can cut back on the gusset a bit, and they'll still be nice and poofy.
[Rus pants]

Here are the pants with the pleats and waistband added. I crocheted the drawstrings for waistband and cuffs.

And the finished products (so far). I take no responsibility for those horrid white socks. Heheheh....

I love the photo with you holding up the pre-pleated pants.

The photo of you and him is a big WIN. What a great shot! You both look wonderful and very... couple-ish. :)
