Well, it looks like the hard drive on my old computer is toast, and I have lost the bulk of my music collection. Unless there's a way of loading it back off my iPad. Is there a way of doing that without wiping it from my iPad? Or should I leave well enough alone and never synch my iPad with my computer ever again? Heh. Unlikely.

You may be able to retrieve it from the hard drive too. I'm not sure whether Norton Utilities is still the best software for that for PCs, for Macs it's something different. But last time I had a disk crash, I was able to retrieve almost all of my files.

This video review of an application seems to be what you are looking for. The actual files won't have logical names anymore but they'll load into and work with itunes just fine

and it's only $8 for the full version. Have not tried it myself mind you, but it seems reputable

Give Sharepod a shot. I don't know if it works for iPads but it works great for iPods. And it's freeware...

I used Senuti to read my music off my 2nd-gen iPod back onto my Mac. It's not the easiest interface, but it's worked faithfully through two Macs so far.

I just thought I would poke my nose into this conversation and mention that this is one of the primary reasons I will never use an iToy of any sort.
