shanmonster: (Dance Monkey Dance!)
"...dance like nobody's watching..."

I'm a performer. I've pretty much always been one. I love to entertain and/or educate. I love to share. I can't be the only person out there who dances best with an audience, can I? The more energy I get from my audience, the more that goes into my performance. Heck, I'll even dance for my chinchilla or pet fish, if they're watching. I find it tricky to dance just for a video camera, too, even if I know people will watch it later.

So when I dance while no one's watching, it's mostly practice for when there will be someone watching.

Yes. It's why when I practice dance at home, I'm not really practicing dance. I'm drilling, or trying to memorize combos. But I never dance for myself.

I occasionally boogie-dance around my living room when nobody's home, though.

Same here. I have a tough time practicing on my own. I think the only real reason I got to be a good dancer was from all the teaching and performance opportunities- it certainly wasn't from drilling alone at home.

I'm driven to teach, too. I've found that lecturing isn't all that different from dancing, at its heart. You're moving and communicating and trying to hold their attention, to help them connect with the material (or the music).

So maybe it should be "dance like everyone else is....feeling it too?"
