shanmonster: (On the stairs)
It was what? Two weeks ago? Maybe three? Not that long ago, anyhow, that I first climbed a rope.

Yesterday, I climbed a 20' rope four times. Last night, I decided to look up rope climbing online, and I found this link: Rope Climbing, how to climb a rope efficiently (if you can find a rope...).

Today, on my very first attempt, I managed to climb halfway up the rope using just my arms.

I didn't even clue in until I was 10' up that I'd done it.

Holy shit.

I shimmied back down, and then repeated the climb four more times.

It wasn't easy. Oh no. But it also wasn't impossibly hard. If I practice this every other day, I think that within a month, I'll be able to arm-over-arm myself all the way to the top.

I've got this.

I've never been able to defeat the rope. I hated that part in gym class... I'm glad we didn't do it often.

I could never climb ropes as a kid. Gym was the only class I'd skip. I hated gym, so very, very much.

Funny how things turned out.

I hated gym so much, too... I think it was mainly due to the other children, though... and sometimes teachers. I'd love to have a go at a rope now, though. It'd be like conquering my childhood.

It was because of the teachers and the other students for me. The kids were such horrible wankers, and my gym teachers were insufferable assholes.

I had one gym teacher tell me I had horrible balance.

I looked at him and asked how, if I had such terrible balance, I was able to ride my horses bareback, and even stand on their backs while they galloped?

I can relate. I went to great lengths to try and get out of it. I'd fake asthma attacks and I attempted to break my arm as well...

I can't remember any specific events in class anymore. I think I have tried to bury all of those memories.

On a somewhat related note, I used to horseback ride as well! It was my favorite thing to do.

I miss my horses. It's been a long, long time.

I miss horses as well. I never had any. I took lessons and competed with a local riding school. I haven't ridden in about 8 years. :(

I haven't ridden since 1994, and I pretty much grew up on horseback.

OMG this is awesome. I have a new goal now! I used to be able to shimmy up a rope as a kid, but I can't even manage more than 2-3 pullups now. I can't wait to try it!
