Canada C3 Expedition video application

Possible video application for the Canadian ocean expedition. They want to know my name, interests, passions, and why participating is important to me. They are looking for enthusiastic people. Think I qualify? I hope I qualify.

It's hard to "be engaged" with an abstract correspondent on the other end of a video camera. Congratulations on attacking the problem though, and your ambition.

You need to try and engage the video watcher more. Break the fourth wall. You're giving a monologue, but you want to come across more like you're having a conversation with someone who will be watching the video. You do a lot of fidgeting, and it makes you look distracted or dissociative, a bit. Try to slow your words down a bit and use some "white-space" silences to give some meaning and inflection to what you are saying. Remember that the microphone is only sampling the audio of your voice so enunciation and clear diction are important. It is good to have prepared what you want to say, but you don't want to look as if you're speed-reading a script. Treat the "conversation" as if you are speaking to friends who really want to know who you are and why this matters to you. You're saying things about yourself, how you regard their importance in the way that you deliver the information says things as much as the content of your words. Speaking to your audience is a bit like dancing for them. What do you want them to see? The information content you are offering sounds really good and intriguing. You have experiences which may give you unique and interesting insights that can be shared with others. I'd be curious, if I were evaluating this application to select someone to participate. Tweak the delivery a bit, and give it a little more practice and I don't see how they'll avoid selecting you.
