Beginning life small, green, tight, and sticky.
Drips of resin dry white along your length.
Nestling tight amongst bright green needles,
Needles soft and pliant, and dark ones stiff and sharp.
You grow and change as the seasons change--
Larger and darker in colour.

You stay hidden amongst the needles,
all spears now,
with no more of the young pliable softness.
You become hard and fibrous.
You stick out wooden tongues and spit out your seeds.
