I need to reboot my computer, but I have all these images I want to share with you, first. So what else is there to do than share them with you? Here goes!

[Pony bus] This overloaded pony was photographed somewhere between the 1860s and 1870s. It reminds me very much of my pony Dolly who used to tirelessly ferry my friends and me all around the countryside.

[I'm a little Fuhrer short and stout] I don't know who made this Hitler teapot or why, but it makes me stare and stare.

[Mlle Lily de Lidia] "Le dehabillage sur le trapeze, execute par Mlle Lily de Lidia, a l'Olympia de Paris. Tour de force d'une audace echevelee et point trop deplaisant a contempler!"

[Pig wheel] This illustration comes from The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. Here's a quotation from it:

At the same instant the car was assailed by a most terrifying shriek; the visitors started in alarm, the women turned pale and shrank back. The shriek was followed by another, louder and yet more agonizing-- for once started upon that journey, the hog never came back; at the top of the wheel he was shunted off upon a trolley, and went sailing down the room. And meantime another was swung up, and then another, and another, until there was a double line of them, each dangling by a foot and kicking in frenzy--and squealing. The uproar was appalling, perilous to the eardrums; one feared there was too much sound for the room to hold--that the walls must give way or the ceiling crack. There were high squeals and low squeals, grunts, and wails of agony; there would come a momentary lull, and then a fresh outburst, louder than ever, surging up to a deafening climax. It was too much for some of the visitors--the men would look at each other, laughing nervously, and the women would stand with hands clenched, and the blood rushing to their faces, and the tears starting in their eyes.

Why is such a thing necessary? Surely there are more humane ways to butcher.

[Hoopty!] This is the hoop skirt to end all hoop skirts. Surely, it is the Platonic ideal of all hoop skirts. This girl looks like she is wearing the world's largest papasan.

[Eugen Sandow (1867-1925)] Eugen Sandow (1867-1925) was the best known and greatest body builder of the late 19th century. He was big into using the brand new photographic medium to promote himself. He was also apparently a big proponent of spirit gum or eyelash glue. How else would he get that big leaf to stay put?

[Dame Miss Harriet] The tattooed Dame Miss Harriet is probably the most elegant-looking vintage painted lady I've ever seen.

[1870s erotica] This piece of worksafe erotica dates from the 1870s. It was made by well-known Russian photographer Wesenberg, who was the photographer of Czar Nicholas II. I think it's pretty funny!

[Mitzi Mayfair] Mitzi Mayfair was a dancer with Ziegfeld Follies. I wish I were as flexible!

[Louise Brooks] Oh look! It's a naked picture of the gorgeous Louise Brooks! And yes, she was a Ziegfeld Follies girl, too.

[Zebra hybrid] This photo dates from around 1890 and shows a man seated on a graceful carriage drawn by a horse and a zebra/horse hybrid.

While you're checking out these pictures, you may also want to skip over to the belly dancers and harem girls gallery. I've put up a few additions.

And just to make sure all my browser windows can be closed, here are a couple more links:

Irina: Irina is a very flexible Russian gymnast.

Protein Bar Recipe: I am trying desperately to increase my protein intake, and this looks like one way. Can you suggest any other recipes?

Heh, their protein bar is pretty much what I used to make as a candy bar, except I didn't put in the powder.

Not a bar, but as a lunch or something, I have a satay chicken recipe you might like. I got it here (http://barbeque.allrecipes.com/az/IndnsinSty.asp) and it also tells you the nutrition information. I have no idea if that's actually high protein, but it seems like it must be since it's mostly chicken and peanut butter, and in any case it's really, really good, even if you use olive oil instead of peanut and ketchup instead of tomato paste. A more authentic satay has a somewhat spicy sauce, and while it's unnecessary in this recipe, you can add some pepper sauce or flakes if you want.

Thanks! That looks like a really tasty recipe. I want to try it out, for sure.

Dear God in Heaven. Shan, where do you find these things?

I liked the cruel Tucker Max story much better.

I found the teapot on a community called twc (Train Wreck Central). I think it's very well-done, but I have to wonder why it was made in the first place.
