shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)

The dance performances from the October Tarik Sultan and Morocco workshop are now available for purchase on DVD or VHS. The video features performers from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Maine, and New York. This is the venue where I did the experimental dance marrying raqs sharqi and kung fu sword form, if you're interested. I still haven't seen it, but I'm anxiously awaiting my copy! I'm told the quality of the video is very high.

If you'd like a copy for yourself, VHS is $25 CDN and DVD is $30 CDN. Shipping is $6 CDN within Canada. For American shipping rates or to order, contact Tina Wagner.

Also of note, I'll be dancing at the Picture of the World Cultural Event sponsored by Canada World Youth. Proceeds from the event go to AIDS/HIV research. I'm not certain what other events are going on, but the show is Friday, Dec. 3 and runs from 7-11 pm at the SUB on the UNB campus in Fredericton, NB. For more information, contact Carrie McElroy.

Ranger was an idiot. He was also my favourite horse. Back in the day, he was an acclaimed racer. Any time I mention his name at the local racetrack, everyone remembers him. This is despite him having raced almost twenty years ago in another province altogether.

He was a tall, hotblooded strawberry roan Standardbred. I affectionately called him the moose. He had a giant head and the body of an emaciated milk cow. He always looked on the verge of starvation, but he was just a naturally scrawny horse. I couldn't ride him bareback for long because his protuberant spine chafed the skin off my tailbone. When he wanted to, he could run like a cheetah with its tail on fire. The trouble was, he saved his high speeds for when running shouldn't have been an option. )

If I ever complain about my triceps being sore, ask me if I did a couple hundred pushups the night before. I keep forgetting I do stuff like that, and then I wonder why I'm weak and trembly the next day. I'm such a dork. Yoga this morning at 7:00 am was less than spectacular for me, but I did manage to wrest a bit of flexibility out of my still-tired body. I went to the gym with f00 this afternoon, but it was a bust. I ended up sitting out most of the stuff. I really do need a full eight hours of sleep. I'm a wreck on six (which is what last night garnered me). I'll turn in early tonight in the hopes I'll be more rested for tomorrow. I model all day, and then have kung fu in the evening.

And now it's time for your daily dose of linkage:

Morris grammar experts argue merits of diagraming: I vaguely remember doing grammatical diagramming somewhere in my elementary school years, but I really don't think it's what got my grammar up to snuff. I think studying another language is a good way of understanding grammar. Still, some people are visual learners, and all this chart stuff would be useful for them. It makes me want to go back and study grammar this way again.

Christ_slash: You knew it would only be a matter of time before this concept hit LiveJournal!

Colombia police report abduction by C-section: Colombian kidnapping reaches new depths. Doesn't this sound rather like the kidney thieves urban legend, though?

Myths Over Miami: "Captured on South Beach, Satan later escaped. His demons and the horrible Bloody Mary are now killing people. God has fled. Avenging angels hide out in the Everglades. And other tales from children in Dade's homeless shelters."

Brazilian fetish video: So very, very not safe for work. And it's oh-so-wrong, too. I got a huge laugh at the grimaces on the girls' faces.

Help Lines Hear Thanksgiving Horror Tales: I must admit, I'd never thought about the idiotic phone calls turkey hotline workers must receive.

This time, your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to bake a pie and share it with someone. Then share the recipe for those who aren't close enough to have a slice of the real thing.

I think tonight I shall bake an apple pie. Want some?
