shanmonster: (Elbow smash dance move!)
Today was my fifth modelling session in two weeks. I do one more next week, and I'm through. I spend my time in the long poses thinking. For the past few sessions, I've been going over my kung fu forms. Today I went over the first section of Tiger Monkey, and when I got home, I gave it a whirl in my living room. It's much better than it was two days ago. I think I've finally achieved a bit of comprehension of the footwork/handwork. Now, if only my living room were twice the length it is. Then I'd be able to do the form properly, without shuffle-hopping back to the centre of the room each time I need to take a few steps or jumps.

At long last, my back is not plaguing me with idiopathic pain. Modelling yesterday was a trial by fire because pretty much everything I did caused pain. But today, I'm back to a full range of motion without aches.

Oh, and it looks like I'll be returning to Kitchener a week sooner than anticipated. That means I'll miss the kung fu seminar, which makes me verrah sad. [livejournal.com profile] seraph_x offered me a ride to Toronto on the 19th or 20th, and I can't afford to turn it down. So [livejournal.com profile] snowy_kathryn and [livejournal.com profile] zero_design, warn the cats that I'll soon be home to torment the living daylights out of 'em!

I can't believe I'm going to miss the seminar. Shit.

Edit: Oops. I guess this means that today was my last modelling day, since next week I'm scheduled to model when I'll be in Ontario. I've called to cancel....

My birthday is on Sunday. Once again, I turn twenty-three. My Mom claims to be twenty-four, so it would be unseemly to be older than her.

Dear Birthday Claus:

I've been a very good girl (most of the time), and would like something other than a lump of coal in my stocking this year.

How about kung fu or Krav Maga classes?
Or how about getting the student loan people off my back?
How about a job at something I'm good at and enjoy doing?
And I sure as fuck would like a pony.

And now it's time for a good, old-fashioned link dump.

Backs to the Future: "Contrary to what had been thought a cognitive universal among humans – a spatial metaphor for chronology, based partly on our bodies' orientation and locomotion, that places the future ahead of oneself and the past behind – the Amerindian group locates this imaginary abstraction the other way around: with the past ahead and the future behind." Time is like a bullet from behind (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] superbrad).

Hara Kiri Covers: NSFW. Defunct French satirical magazines' bizarre cover art (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] balthcat).

Electrical substations disguised as houses: Sometimes a house is not a house.

Tv in Jappone (e in Italia?): NSFW. In no way, shape, or form safe for work.
