shanmonster: (For goodness sakes. I've got the....)

I stayed up far too late watching The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (wow!), and when I awoke this morning, the phrase "vile prescriptivist" kept repeating in my mind. I have no idea what this means, or what the context is, but it was stuck in my mind like a skipping record. Any notions? I googled for it and found nothing.

Today I leave for the boondocks of the Miramichi. I expect the Internet hasn't yet been invented there, so don't expect any updates. I'll be assuaging my boredom with frequent reading, writing, game playing (Settlers, Trivial Pursuit, Carcassonne, and Populous on my laptop), and, if I can get the space, kung fu, dance, and callesthenics. I expect I'll be able to do dragons and pushups in the livingroom, at the very least.

Catch ya later, dudes.

Wait ... you didn't find anything on Google? Cause when I search, the first and only result is ... my LJ bio! So, that's my guess as to where you found it.

A prescriptivist is someone who proclaims rigid language rules, usually in a loud and intolerant fashion, as opposed to a descriptivist, who describes how language is actually used.

That's really weird. When I searched earlier, there were no results. And now your bio? How very strange.

Why on earth was a phrase from your bio echoing through my mind?

Those are both very great mysteries. I guess I should be flattered that my linguistic usages are affecting your subconscious mind!

I think I solved one of the mysteries. I had searched for "vile prescriptivists" rather than the singular. The other mystery remains extant.

Settlers and Carcassonne are pretty solid. Still, the marketing is insane for both (more Settlers, but still substantial)... expansions, expansions, expansions, variations...

I love the expansions. We made up our own exploration variant, and it's our favourite way of playing the game.

They're good, but so pricey... milking the game for all it's worth, and our hapless wallets. At least they were anyways... don't know what prices are like nowadays.

Trivial Pursuit - ah, the old standby.
See ya later!

It's the pop culture edition, and the questions are much more esoteric than I anticipated.

I have a surprise for you.

A surprise? I hope it's a happy surprise and not an I-pooped-in-your-bed surprise. Heh heh heh....
