The job wasn't what I thought it would be. Well, not completely. It was walking around and listening to my iPod. That part was perfect. Carrying the heavy weight across one shoulder was annoying, but workable. However, I was expecting a part-time job, not a full-time one. What I could do for four hours with ease is not what I can manage for eight. By noon, I was fine. By 1, I was not. The last hour of my shift, I had a bad limp.

And then I had to go and teach a dance class, and with the help of Advil, I managed without looking like I felt. Going to the gym was out of the question.

I had every intention of going in today, but I could barely hobble to the bathroom, let alone walk for another eight hours at a brisk pace. My hips and calves are badly seized up, and I'm afraid that the tension in my calf is going to put my bad foot out of wack yet again, which makes any action, walking or sitting, painful.

I'll go in again tomorrow to get my pay, and to see if there's any possibility of doing this part-time. I just can't handle the eight-hour march.

OMFG eight hours of walking, and they started you straight away with the full shift? I don't think they require that even of postal carriers!

Yeah. It was brutal. Oddly enough, I'm going to attempt to walk it off a bit today. But at my own speed, and not too far.

Ugh, I empathize with the frustration.

It is soooo frustrating. I've spent most of the last six hours looking for work online, and filling out awkward application form after application form.

Ouch, sorry. Can you get workers com-
pensation for your bad foot now? :P

I once did an 8 hour day of door-to-
door donation solicitation in the
middle of Texas summer. The sunstroke
was so bad that I didn't do a second
day of the job. :(

I refuse to do door-to-door solicitation. I did my dues as a JW kid.

I'm sorry about the sunstroke. That's really harsh.

We didn't even have a product to
sell; we were just begging for cash,
and we had quotae to meet. And little
old ladies don't like men at their
doors in the evening, and lonely
women like to waste time talking.

I'm sure after a month or two of
working up to it, I might have
been okay, but the shivers all
through the night and the glowing
red skin (despite the sunblock)
were awful.
