shanmonster: (Tiger claw)
I am very frustrated with my bad foot. The more I exercise, the more it hurts. The less I exercise, the worse shape I'm in.

How do I exercise without stressing my foot? When it's bad, it even hurts when I sit down.

Get an xray asap

I've had xrays. And physiotherapy.

Have you been referred to a sports doctor yet? I'm still waiting for mine.

Not recently. Not a bad idea.

Swimming? That's low-impact (except when you're standing on the bad foot).

When my pool is open, I'm planning on taking advantage of it. But when my foot is really bad, swimming hurts it, too.

If I were an apotemnophile, it would be the first thing to go.

What's wrong with it --
specifically?

I gave myself what I have
diagnosed as plantar fas-
citis a couple of years
back, and it still plagues
me.

No two doctors agree on what is wrong with it. Here's as best as I can figure. A few years ago, I sprained my foot badly. I have arthritis. Less than a year after that, I got a bad inflammation inside my ankle because of over use (I worked at a Tim Horton's on a concrete floor). A small bone inside my foot keeps moving out of place.

I've had physiotherapy for it, but the pain keeps returning sporadically.

I think my foot is just worn out.

I remember the trouble you
had while working at the
Tim Horton's. I thought it
had healed. :( It must be
frustrating to still not
know what is wrong.

What about wearing some
sort of foot corset to keep
the bone in place?

How does massage work for
it? The Hitachi Magic Wand
really helps my feet.

I haven't tried the wand on my feet. I could give it a shot. I think it's tied in partially with my calves. If my calves begin to charlie horse, it's almost always just a day or two before my foot flares up.

I wear a pressure bandage on my foot. It helps a bit.

"on my feet"

Real subtle there. :P

Too bad you don't have kids;
you could get them to wand
you for Mother's Day.

So you don't think it's
plantar fascitis? The
connexion to your calves
makes me suspicious. I
know that with my foot
issue, my achilles tendon
is involved. Maybe you
need to sleep in one of
those boots they use for
plantar fascitis...

I do agree with the below
comment about exer-bike,
elliptical, and inclined
treadmill.

Sympathy about the foot + off subject

Hope it gets better; take care of it (of course!)

hey its the guy that gave you a workout regiment example.

Saw your entry about your foot have been wondering if it got better yet. You probably continued cardio inspite of the pain and made it worse. In order for it to heal just give it a rest. If your lifestyle has been healthy for many years you wont fall out of shape that fast. Once you are healed you can go back to your regiment. Try the bicycle or swimmming if your gym has one. You can compensate with less carbs in the diet until you healup too if you think you need to. wishing you a speedy recovery

Hi, and thanks.

Unfortunately, this is a long-term injury with chronic pain. I have taken periods of rest before, but as soon as I do any significant amount of exercise (including long walks), it's just a question of time before it flares up again. Since it's been years, I don't think it is going to heal up. And I refuse to not exercise for the rest of my life.

hi thanks for getting back to my post so quick got an sms so I thought Id reply quick. If you can do the bicycle or swimming instead for your cardio other than running. I dont know the severity of your injury obviously there are those that cant walk 15 feet without pain. IF you can manage somewhat better than that choose the following: encumbered bike, elliptical, or swimming pool, walking slow paced at a higher incline may be a help on the tredmill.
