I located my pattern and cut into the fabric. After a knock-down battle with my sewing machine, the coat is coming along just fine.

[Ghawazee coat]

I think I'll make bell sleeves instead of the standard draping ones. For trim, I'm thinking of using a subdued gold cord edging, and some sort of jacquard. Maybe in white? Hmm.... I'll play with it and see what I come up with. I like designing on the fly.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I'm all trepidatious about the whole thing. Eee....

Linings aren't so bad. I've modified several unlined jacket and vest patterns using that technique.

Because of the way a ghawazee coat fits, though, you might consider forgoing the sleeve lining. Or line the sleeve separately, and then whipstitch the shoulder seams of the lining over the sleeve lining once you piece the garment together.

I'll try that. Thanks. I want the sleeves lined, for sure, because I want the inside of the bell ends to flash the satin lining when I move.
